Chiengmai, the most romantic city in the north of Thailand

Dear readers. I had visited the city of Chiengmai last month. I fell in love with this city right away. The people of this city is so friendly and their lives seem to be easier than people in Bangkok. I went to Chiengmai because I haven't been there for over 20 years. I'd like to visit the old temples and old buildings which are in the old section of the city. Like all the capital in the past, the inner city will be surrounded by the canal for the defense purpose. You can see the remaining of the ancient wall dated back over 500 years. The temples seemed to be the only kind of buildings that survived the attack from the other nations. I love to stroll in the inner city in the morning. There are many food stalls that we can experience our taste bud.

At night, the street in the inner city became one of the great outdoor market. People will take the side walk as their trading places. Youngsters will come out and use the street to perform their latest songs. Judging from the cost of living, to live in Chiengmai is cheaper than Bangkok for 40%.

If we have more than 2 days to explore the nearby region, I will recommend to travel north of the city toward Chieng Dao cavern. This is an old cavern that had been explored and well maintained by the monks. We will need a local guide to bring us in and out of this cavernous cave. Along the way to the cavern, we can visit the botanical garden and the former residence of the past queen of Rama the V, Chao Dararussmee. The house is over 300 years old and well preserved by the government.

The entrance fee is minimal and all will go to the foundation to preserve the house. In front of the house, there are a couple tree that were planted by the Royal family. The fruit, lygee, was so ripe and it had fallen from the tree but it seemed nobody dare to touch the ripe and juicy fruit. I had asked the officers about this and the answer was it was not right to touch the King's property without any prior consent. So my decision to taste one of this lygee was out of my mind. For your information, Chiengmai is a wonderful city that you must put in your travel book. The period of 3 days will be enough for you to get the essence of the northern of Thailand. The charm of Vieng Ping....the old name of Chiengmai.
